Australian origin
The Australian Government requires labelling that indicates the origin of any seafood served for immediate consumption. The system ensures food is labelled with an (A) for Australian or (I) for imported on menus or boards for all seafood dishes. These changes make it easier for consumers to be informed about what dishes contain Australian or imported sources of seafood and are mandatory from 1 July 2026.

Australian origin
An (A) indicates that seafood was caught in Australia. Choosing Australian seafood supports local fishermen and businesses.
Imported
An (I) indicates that seafood was caught outside Australia and imported for sale. Imported seafood may be fresh or frozen and should be clearly labelled to help customers make an informed decision.
Australian caught, never imported
